FAQs

Q. Do you allow smoking in your Yorkshire coastal cottages?
A. No we don’t. All of our Yorkshire coastal cottages have been finished to an extremely high standard and some contain antique fabrics and furniture. Please respect our rule.

Q. I am keen to rent a Yorkshire coastal cottage for a family holiday. Do you allow children?
A.
Yes, we welcome well-behaved children.

Q. Are your coastal cottages cleaned thoroughly?
A.
Yes of course. At Marmadukes we pride ourselves on providing an exceptional quality of service to our customers and assign each of our Yorkshire coastal cottages their own housekeeper to ensure that the high standards are maintained. Our housekeepers scrub and polish the holiday cottages from top to bottom between each stay and can be relied upon to ensure that things are ‘just so’ for your arrival.

Q. What time can we get into our cottage and when do we have to leave?
A.
Here at Marmadukes coastal cottages, we operate a four hour turnaround system which means that you will normally be able to get into your property around 4pm and leave at 12 noon. Some start earlier 2pm and leave by 10am. When you book we will give you full details. But please remember that our housekeepers have got a lot of work to do to freshly prepare the cottage for the next guest.

Q. What happens if something goes wrong while we’re renting the cottage?
A.
Sometimes things do go wrong. It’s a property after all! Boilers can breakdown and guests can lose keys! Whatever happens, we will do our level best to put things right as quickly as we can for you, but please remember we’re only human too!

Q. Who can we contact in the event of something going wrong?
A.
Our holiday cottages administration centre is open from 9am – 9pm, seven days a week on 0845 4 60 20 20. In the event of an emergency occurring outside of these hours, please contact our 24 hour customer service team on the same number. If our staff are not able to help, our local Manager will be on hand to assist you.

Q. Do we have to bring our own bedding and towels?
A.
No, all of the beds in our Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay holiday cottages are dressed with fresh linen prior the arrival of guests. All our holiday cottages also come complete with guest towels. We do ask guests to bring their own beach towels however.

Q. Why do you charge me to bring my dog to one of your holiday cottages?
A. For the simple reason that it takes our housekeepers a lot longer to clean a cottage which has had a dog to stay.

Q. When we rent a Marmadukes holiday cottage, do we have to pay for gas and electricity?
A. No. Everything is included in the rental price. We just ask guests not to waste power, as this will inevitably lead to price increases.

Q.
How much do we have to pay for a deposit to secure our holiday cottage?
A.
When you book one of our Whitby or Robin Hood’s Bay holiday cottages, we ask you to pay a deposit of a £100 and then the rest of the balance 8 weeks before you go. If you decide to cancel 8 weeks before then we will return your deposit less an administration fee. If you cancel less than 8 weeks before then we cannot refund any money unless we are able to re-let the property (which is why it is important to take out cancellation insurance). Please read our full Terms & Conditions before making a booking.
