Delightful Holiday Cottages in Robin Hoods Bay
Our ancient fisherman’s cottages tucked in the heart of Robin Hoods Bay village, offer delightful holiday accommodation in one of the most beautiful spots in Yorkshire. Accurately described as an artists’ paradise, and a wild huddle of houses clinging to the steep face of the cliff, Robin Hood’s Bay calls its visitors back year after year to wander along its dramatic sea shore or lose themselves amongst the maze of tiny streets and alleyways in the village.
Now famous for its bewitching holiday cottages, Robin Hood’s Bay was best known for its fishing and thriving smuggling trade in times gone by. Many of its cottages were said to have connecting cellars and cupboards to move the ‘goods’ secretly from the sea to the cliffs above. Shipwrecks were frequent too! Many a large vessel was driven onto the rocks, foundering in the high seas and powerful gales. The wild seas threatened the village itself pounding away at the cliff, gradually eroding the land away.
Fortunately nowadays Robin Hood’s Bay is protected by a sturdy sea wall! Small boats venture out once again to the teeming crab grounds and children fish safely in the many rock pools at low tide.
Time seems to have stood still here. If your ideal holiday is peace and quiet, lovely walks, sitting for a few hours in the pub watching the sea and strolling out to a good little restaurant in the evening, then Robin Hood’s Bay is for you. You won’t want to go home!
